Nintendo has dropped yet another Donkey Kong game onto Nintendo Switch Online.

Following Donkey Kong Land and Donkey Kong Land 2 dropping in subsequent weeks, Nintendo has now dropped Donkey Kong Land 3.

Just like the previous two games, this is inspired by Donkey Kong Country 3 and is a lo-fi version of the game with levels inspired by the classic game.

Nintendo are slowly getting better at releasing old games on Nintendo Switch online, following Donkey Kong Land and it’s sequel dropping last week.

This week, Nintendo has announced that none other than TETRIS, as it appeared on the NES, will be coming to Nintendo Switch Online’s NES app on December 12th.

This was previously confirmed in Nintendo’s Partner Direct back in August, though a specific release date has not been known until now.

The NES version of Tetris is unique in that it was designed to end the game by becoming unplayably fast as time passes, though sweaty Tetris players eventually worked out a way to do so.

Another week, another Switch 2 leak and this time it looks to be surrounding the consoles Joy-Con controllers.

In a video posted to the Chinese video-sharing website Bilibili, the new Switch Joy-Con are shown in greater detail.

While we can’t see much in the footage, which is quite low quality, the Joy-Con are shown to snap off rather than slide on, perhaps indicating that the new attachment will be done via magnets.

There’s not a whole lot more to be shown, but the video does show off IR Blasters on both Joy-Con, where the original Switch only had one. There also look to be extra triggers previously though it’s not clear if these are extra buttons, a release mechanism or a trigger for those playing with the Joy-Con horizontally.

While there have been many leaks about the Switch 2, especially a rather major one three months ago, the console has yet to be formally revealed, and no release date is known.

Nintendo had previously announced that Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp would wrap up on November 28th, but it has now confirmed that the game will live on as a paid version of that game that comes with everyone that was available as paid add-ons as well as some new features.

Just a few days after the original Donkey Kong Land arrived on Nintendo Switch Online, Nintendo has now stealth dropped Donkey Long Land 2 onto the platform.

This is a portable (and non colour) GameBoy version of the game that carries across both Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong as playable characters and has many of the same levels as the Super Nintendo classic, although much more lo-fi with much less going on on the screen.

If you’re a Donkey Kong fan (or a platforming fan in general), it’s well worth jumping in to play through.

After the Nintendo Live Sydney in-person merch shop proved to be insanely popular, Nintendo promised it would allow attendees to shop the items at an online store, and it has now delivered on that promise.

If you attended Nintendo Live Sydney, you should have received an email in the last 24 hours with an exclusive link that allows you to access a hidden area of the My Nintendo shop to purchase items that were previously only available at the in-person event.

The email that was sent out reads:

After it was teased in a BTS video for LEGO Horizon Adventures last week, we now have our first look at the next Horizon set which will be branded under LEGO Horizon Adventures thanks to Amazon Mexico.

It’s set to be a 768 piece set and will include an all-new Aloy minifigure with a new boy and hairpiece, a Varl minifigure, a massive Shell-Walker with the ability to take parts off as well as a Sawtooth as well.

We’re expecting this to be announced in the coming months and release early next year. Given this is the first set to be released under the LEGO Horizon Adventures branding, it’ll be interesting to see if we see any more.

Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: The Definitive Edition had a weird and rocky release schedule coming out quite underdone on consoles and PC, before releasing for mobile last year on Netflix with that release having better lighting and other gameplay improvements that the console versions didn’t get.

Rockstar has now dropped an update for the game on consoles that significantly improves visuals as well as a bunch of other fixes. This includes a new Classic Lighting Mode that can be toggled on, but there’s also a heap of other improvements that haven’t yet been detailed officially, that fans are noticing.

Visual effects for rain, fire and fog have all been improved, and animations for the game including when you’re running with a gun has also been totally fixed, and there’s a bunch of other little fixes including the ability to view your position on the world map.

Rockstar hasn’t detailed these changes yet, but the below image/videos show off how different the classic lighting mode is, totally capturing the look of the original game, rather than what was presented originally.

Nintendo has finally given us a deep dive into the next world joining Nintendo World Japan and it’s none-other than Donkey Kong Country. It’s finally opening at Universal Japan on December 11th before beginning to come to other locations starting next year.

As someone who has recently been to Nintendo World (in LA), Donkey Kong World looks incredibly detailed and totally different from Super Mario World.

Just like in the games, you’ll be able to summon Rambi by banging on the congas and you’ll be able to find the KONG letters and scan them with a brand new power-up band.

As far as food goes, there’s a new DK Crush Sundae as well as a DK Wild Hot Dog both with super cute retro art that comes with the food which you can get from the Jungle Beat Shakes. Obviously you’ll be able to meet the Kong himself as well and he looks larger than life.

Funky’s Fly N Buy features with a bunch of Donkey Kong merchandise with the iconic plane being there in full force just like it is in the game.

Upon entering the Golden Temple, you’ll find the Mine Cart Madness ride and when you think of rides that could match the Donkey Kong games this rollercoaster fits perfectly. We only got a sneak peak of the ride including quick looks at Cranky Kong and Dixie Kong, but it’s very clear that the coaster will jump from track to track and complete darkness.

It’s been long expected (although can you ever really know with Nintendo), but the company has officially confirmed that Nintendo Switch games will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. It also confirmed that Nintendo Switch Online will be available on the Nintendo Switch 2 as well.

This statement was posted on Twitter, by president Furukawa:

“This is Furukawa. At today’s Corporate Management Policy Briefing, we announced that Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to Nintendo Switch. Nintendo Switch Online will be available on the successor to Nintendo Switch as well. Further information about the successor to Nintendo Switch, including its compatibility with Nintendo Switch, will be announced at a later date.”

It went into more detail in its presentation to investors:

On Nintendo Switch Online: 

“Until Nintendo Switch, there was no easy way to have consumers’ purchase and gameplay histories carry over across platform generations.
As a result, our relationship with the consumers was interrupted when a new system was purchased. The introduction of Nintendo Account made it possible to tie consumers’ history to their personal account, enabling Nintendo to maintain a continuous relationship with the consumers across platform generations. We have communicated that we plan on making an announcement regarding the successor to Nintendo Switch during this fiscal year. We believe that it is important for Nintendo’s future to make use of Nintendo Account and carry over the good relationship that we have built with the over 100 million annual playing users on Nintendo Switch to its successor. Thus, we will make Nintendo Switch Online, a service based on Nintendo Account, available on the successor to Nintendo Switch.”

On backwards compatibility: 

“Furthermore, Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to Nintendo Switch. In addition to being able to play Nintendo Switch software they currently own, consumers will be able to choose their next purchase from a broad selection of titles released for Nintendo Switch. Further information about the successor to Nintendo Switch, including its compatibility with Nintendo Switch I explained today, will be announced at a later date.”

Nintendo also detailed franchises such as Pikmin, Kirby, Metroid and Xenoblade Chronicles that have grown hugely on the Nintendo Switch compared to sales on the 3DS and Wii U.

Nintendo is set to reveal the Nintendo Switch successor before March 31st, 2025, so not too long to go now. It’s rumored that the game will use AI upscaling (similar to that of the PS5 Pro) to upscale games to 4K, so it’ll be interesting to see how that works with original Nintendo Switch games.

Nintendo revealed its latest earnings yesterday which prompted President Shuntaro Furukawa to once again reiterate that the Nintendo Switch successor will be announced before the end of the fiscal year which ends on March 31st, 2025.

As Nintendo Switch sales fall short of expectations leading to a share price decline, Analyst Hideki Yasuda has said in an interview with Reuters that Nintendo looks unlikely to announce the Nintendo Switch before the Holiday season as it looks to boost Switch sales in-line with expectations.

“Making an announcement this year has gotten quite difficult… You would not want to divert attention to an upcoming console in the middle of the critical year-end shopping season” Yasuda said.

Almost perfectly timed with me writing this article, Nintendo Australia announced that it is releasing a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Nintendo Switch OLED bundle on November 29th, just in-time for the busy shopping period. This comes following the news that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold another two million copies in the last sales period, which is just insane, and no doubt this will do well as it’s the first time Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been bundled with the OLED model.

Warner Bros has today provided an update on Hogwarts Legacy 2. Whilst in the past, the company had confirmed that the game was a priority as it has now sold over 30 million copies, this has been reiterated and further information provided by the President.

In an interview with Variety, President David Haddad said that the game is “a very big priority” and that the game will share some big picture storytelling elements with the upcoming Harry Potter reboot which is set to hit HBO in 2026.

Interestingly enough, the HBO series is set to re-tell the story of the movies, which means that the next Hogwarts Legacy game could feature some more well-known characters, or maybe it ties into in other ways.

It’s probably a year or two before we hear about the next Hogwarts Legacy game, but we do suspect that we’ll be hearing about the Hogwarts Legacy: Director’s Cut in the very near future.

This is a free app, that’s accessible for Nintendo Switch Online members with music from games such as Animal Crossing, The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, Metroid, Splatoon, Mario, Pokemon and more with music sorted by game with special playlists as well.

You can listen to music for extended times of up to 15, 30 or 60 minutes to keep the good vibes going without interruption. There’s offline support to download the tracks, background playback and also the ability to create your own playlists.

It was one of the Wii U games that people wanted on another platform the most, and Nintendo has finally delivered. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is officially coming to Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2025.

The game originally released on Wii U in 2015 to fairly fantastic reviews with a Metacritic score of 84. The game will have enhanced visuals and added story elements when it launches on the Nintendo Switch, although not too much info outside of the below trailer has been revealed yet.

We’ll keep you posted on any further information that we get about the game and the release date of late March is certainly interesting in terms of where this will sit with the Nintendo Switch 2 announcement.

Playtonic has today revealed the release platforms for the Yooka Laylee remake, Yooka-Replayee, and it’s coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and “Nintendo platforms”.

This marks the second time in recent months that a game has been revealed for not just the Nintendo Switch but an undisclosed future Nintendo Switch console.

The game will have its art and animations overhauled, new and improved challenges, a new collectible currency, a brand new world map as well as challenge trackers and a bunch of new Tonics, in addition to a revised controls and camera which should give this game the second chance it deserves.

As far as timings go for the next Nintendo console, we know that it will be revealed before the end of the Japanese financial year, so by the end of March, 2025.

Nintendo is holding an online playtest for something new later this week, and people that have gotten into the test have already shared what it is as well as a bunch of information and screenshots thanks to a guide that Nintendo posted online. We’ve chosen not to share screenshots here, but here’s a lot of what the new game/service is all about.

It’s a new game that is without a name, but the purpose of the game is “to work with others to fully develop a massive expanding planet by utilising creativity and framed resources”.

The description goes on to say that “as you progress across the planet, you’ll discover new lands, enemies and resources that will become essential to your journey”.

As a player, you’ll be granted a special tool known as a beacon that helps purify and develop the land, with the higher it placed, the wider the zone becoming. You’ll need to repeat this process until the planet is considered fully developed.

The game also has another area called ‘The Dev Core’ which Nintendo describes as a social hub to gather with other players. You’ll be able to level up your character, acquire items and commune with others.

There’s also a UGC element of the game, but you’ll need to pass the UGC License Test before you can create content, by answering a number of question in a classic Nintendo fashion.

We don’t know when the game will release, or what it will be called, but for those in other parts of the world (not Australia), they’ll be playing it this week, and it’s exciting to see something totally new from Nintendo. You can see more images and read all about it over at Resetera HERE.

Sandisk has announced that it has partnered with Nintendo to release three MicroSD cards, which have now found their way to Australia a few months after launching in the US.

Hogwarts Legacy was the best-selling game of 2023 and it appears that WB is looking to capitalise on that with a Definitive Edition that will add new content.

According to Insider Gaming, Hogwarts Legacy Definitive Edition will be sold as a seperate piece of DLC and will have 10-15 hours of additional content including a new main story quest, side quests, activities and outfits.

Release timing for the definitive edition hasn’t been detailed, but it’s expected that it could come in 2025 following the lacklustre performance of Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League.

Earlier in the year, Warner Bros CFO said that a successor to Hogwarts Legacy was one of the biggest priorities for the company’s gaming division, which wasn’t a huge shock to anyone.

We gave the original Hogwarts Legacy a 9/10 saying: “Hogwarts Legacy is the Wizarding World game that fans have dreamt of for years. It offers a dense and rich open-world to explore complemented perfectly by a surprisingly robust and engaging combat system unlike anything else. Earlier today, future Pokemon leaks started appearing on the internet much in the way that Grand Theft Auto 6 and the recent Insomniac leaks started appearing, with people assuming that Pokemon developer Game Freak had been hacked.

Game Freak has now put out a statement (viewable here) which confirms that it was hacked in August with personal information of employees as well as a bunch of other information about Pokemon’s entire history and several details about future games have been confirmed as well within the leaked information.

Whilst we won’t show any of the images/videos here, IGN is reporting that within the leaks are several pieces of information about future Pokémon games including the codenames for two versions of the 10th generation Pokemon games (K and N) with these games apparently releasing on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, which we learn is codenamed “Ounce”. It’s also said Pokemon Legend Z-A is set to release only on Nintendo Switch, but that might not mean a lot as we get into the Switch successor’s future announcement.

It’s also said that there is a Pokemon game codenamed Synapse, which is being co-developed with another studio and people are claiming that it is an MMO or at least a primarily online game. This would be a huge step for the Pokemon franchise, so it’ll be interesting to see how this pans out.

There’s also source code for a number of Pokemon games in the leak, 1000s upon 1000s of character art for games and the anime, as well as meeting notes for key decisions such as how many of the Pokemon game elements came to be and how Ash’s run in the anime came to an end as well.

The Nintendo Alarmo was announced overnight, and Nintendo Australia has now confirmed that it is coming to Australia although it will require a ballot to get one.

NINTENDO ALARMO AUSTRALIAN PRICE AND RELEASE DATE

The Nintendo Alarmo will release on November 13 as an early exclusive offer before a wider 2025 release in Australia, but you need to enter a ballot to get one. It will cost $159.95 AUD. You can register here.

It will happen in two phases:

• Round 1: Register by 10:59AM AEDT Monday 14^th October 2024  and notified by Thursday October 17th
• Round 2: Register by 10:59AM AEDT Monday 28^th October 2024 and notified by Thursday October 31st

WHAT IS THE NINTENDO ALARMO?

The Nintendo Alarmo features interactive motion sensor technology that respond to movements, allowing you to snooze your alarm with motion alone. It has 35 scenes inspired by five Nintendo titles including Super Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 3, Pikmin 4 and Ring Fit Adventure.

When the alarm isn’t going off, you can experience immersive sounds and music from the scenes that you’ve picked, and then sounds from iconic Nintendo franchises will also play to wake you up.

There’s also a health element to Alarmo with records showing you how much you move around in your sleep and different kinds of intensity levels for the alarm itself.

If the new Nintendo Alarmo clock wasn’t enough for you, Nintendo is now teasing a brand new online experience for Nintendo Switch online.

It has announced this early because it wants people in several countries to help test the new feature, which isn’t being revealed or detailed at all.

On Twitter and on its website, Nintendo said: “We will perform a test called Nintendo Switch Online: Playtest Program related to a new feature for the Nintendo Switch Online service offered for the Nintendo Switch system. We will recruit people to participate in this test from those with Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack memberships. Customers will need to download exclusive software to their own Nintendo Switch system in order to participate.”

Unfortunately, Australia isn’t one of the countries on the list with only those in Japan, the US, the UK, France, Germany, Italy or Spain being able to participate. The test will take place from October 24th until November 11th, and you’d assume either before or during that time we will know what this new experience is.

It’s been revealed that a new action-RPG Avatar: The Last Airbender game is in the works by Paramount Game Studios and Saber Interactive (Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2). It will be the first AAA game to exist in the Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise.

The game is early in development and will put players in the role of an all-new, never before seen Avatar and take place thousands of years into the past. It’s said that players “can expect to be immersed in a vibrant world, master all four elements, engage in dynamic combat alongside companions, and experience the challenges and decisions that come with being the keeper of balance in the world.”

it’s said that it’ll feature elements both new and familiar to fans of the franchise when it comes to the story of the game.

Right now, details of the game are slim given it’s still early in development, but you can read a little bit more over on IGN who had the exclusive announcement.

GameBoy Advance games have been slow and steadily added to the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion pass, but two more were just added.

For those that have wanted more F-Zero in your life, that has been answered with two new games coming to the service including F-Zero GP Legend and F-Zero Climax. These will launch on October 11th.

F-Zero GP Legend launched worldwide for the GBA, and F-Zero Climax launched about a year later in Japan but never made its way across to the rest of the world.

It was leaked some time ago, but PlayStation confirmed this morning that LEGO Horizon Adventures will officially be releasing on PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC on November 14th.

Alongside the new trailer which showed off a bunch of new gameplay, it was also revealed that there will be a Digital Deluxe edition for the game which includes a bunch of classic PlayStation outfits including the below:

• Roller Coaster Customization | No need to choose between roof or coaster; you can have both and bring some theme park fun to Mother’s Heart!
• Three iconic Horizon outfits | Pay homage to Aloy’s adventures in the icy north with the Banuk Armor, channel your inner Eclipse with the Shadow Stalwart outfit, or fight metal with metal as “Alloy” Aloy!
• Ratchet and Rivet outfits | Join the thrilling journey as intergalactic super-mechanic Ratchet or trans-dimensional Resistance fighter Rivet.

Pre-orders for the game will go live on October 3rd and anyone that pre-orders the game will get a LEGO version of the iconic Shield-Weaver outfit in game.

It was also revealed that Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is coming later this year as well.

The first Nintendo Switch 2 components and subsequent renders seemingly leaked online earlier this week, and a YouTuber has used the renders and measurements to 3D print what it could look like and compared it to several handhelds.

It seems to be a lock at this point that the Nintendo Switch 2 will have a larger 8-inch display, and one of the areas that have been critiqued about the original console is the Joy-Con design which will also seemingly be improved both in how they connect (magnetically), the size of them to improve ergonomics and also the buttons on the side being big enough to be used without the wrist strap attachment.

In the video we see comparisons to the Nintendo Switch OLED, the PlayStation Portal and the Steam Deck. Interestingly enough, despite having a larger display, it’s smaller than the Steam Deck OLED, and almost as big as the PlayStation Portal.

Given the size of it, it’ll be interesting to see how it feels ergonomically as if there is one thing that many other handhelds have improved on since the Switch came out, it’s ergonomics, and especially with a bigger foot print, Nintendo will need to do some work there to make this comfortable in handheld mode.

It’s felt like we’ve all been waiting for this day, and fresh off winning another copyright infringement lawsuit, Nintendo has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Pocket Pair over Palworld.

In a statement on its corporate websites, Nintendo announced that it would launch a lawsuit that would seek an injunction against the defendants as well as compensation for damages alleging that Palworld infringes multiple patents.

The statement reads:

“Nintendo Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Minami-ku, Kyoto City; President and CEO: Shuntaro Furukawa; hereinafter referred to as “the Company”), in collaboration with The Pokémon Company, filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Pocket Pair Co., Ltd. (headquarters: 2-10-2 Higashi-Gotanda, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter referred to as “Defendant”) in the Tokyo District Court on September 18, 2024.”

“The lawsuit seeks an injunction against the defendants and compensation for damages, alleging that the game “Palworld” developed and sold by the defendants infringes multiple patents.”

“In order to protect the valuable intellectual property that we have built up through many years of hard work, we will continue to take the necessary measures against any infringement of our intellectual property, including our brand.”

We’ll keep you posted on the findings of this one, but the reality is that since Palworld was released, there’s been multiple findings of the creatures looking a lot like certain Pokemon or even allegedly taking assets, so it’ll be interesting to see what is found.

Photos of what appears to be an updated Nintendo Switch matching all of the previous leaks of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 have appeared online. Obviously we’re getting to the point where leaks would be ramping up for the Nintendo Switch 2 as production is rumoured to have begun, but equally we’d expect fake images to increase as well, so whilst the below matches up with everything we believe to know about the Nintendo Switch, it’s worth being cautious.

These photos originated on Reddit and seem to come from a Chinese production line or manufacturing company. The 10+ photos of parts and renders can be found HERE.

The photos show off a larger Nintendo Switch which is rumoured to have an 8-inch screen, there’s a USB-C port at the top and the bottom, which has been long requested for charging when in tabletop mode and it’s our first look at the updated Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con which are rumoured to connect by magnets and appear to have bigger side buttons that won’t require the wrist strap railing. There’s a button on the back of each Joy-Con, but it’s unclear if this is just the mechanism to release the Joy-Con or a third shoulder button.

As far as the specs go, it’s said to have 12 GB of ram, a 256GB SSD as well as HDMI 2.1 out support. Based on the specs, it’s rumoured to be somewhere between a PS4 Pro and Xbox Series S performance wise, before DLSS will presumably enhance performance.

This includes Battletoads Double Dragon, Big Run, Cosmo Gang The Puzzle and Kunio-kun no Dodgeball da yo Zen’in Sh?g?!.

I can’t necessarily say I’ve heard of the others aside from Battletoads (which is a classic), but it’s great to see some updates trickling though regardless.

Nintendo Australia has announced a brand new Nintendo Switch OLED bundle that includes a custom box with Super Mario Bros Wonder branding.

The bundle comes with Super Mario Bros Wonder pre-installed onto the system as well as 12 months of Nintendo Switch Online included as well.

We don’t have a price yet, and it’s unclear if this will be coming to other regions with Nintendo Australia being the only official account to announce it so far.

This is one that I didn’t see coming. If you were like me you probably spent your school years playing point-and-click classic Carmen Sandiego, and she’s back in a new game that is being worked on by Gameloft Studios in Brisbane.

It’s a single-player puzzle-adventure based on the recent Netflix animated series, and it will launch on Netflix in Q1 2025 before coming to PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch in the same quarter.

It will have a story-driven campaign and classic modes, but interestingly, you’ll play as Carmen Sandiego this time around, using high-tech gadgets to defeat an evil organisation.

I must say, when I saw that a new Carmen Sandiego game was on the way, I had fairly low expectations, but watching the trailer, it looks pretty fantastic both from an artistic direction but also the gameplay looks like a genuinely fun time.

Nintendo has emailed attendees of Nintendo Live Sydney with an email thanking them for attending the event but also acknowledging that it wasn’t all smooth sailing with there being a heavy amount of lines, particularly the merch section.

Within this email (as obtained by Vooks), it says that it plans to off every item that was available at the My Nintendo Store available online including the Nintendo Live 2024 Sydney merch at store.nintendo.com.au at a later date.

There were a number of cute plushies from the likes of Elephant Mario to a number of Pikmin plushies that hadn’t been available in Australia outside of this event, so it’s good to see these coming to Australia more widely. You can see the full list of items here or below:

Earlier this week it was announced that we were getting Mario Kart toys back in our Happy Meals and as of today they’ve landed.

Interestingly enough, these look to be similar to the Mario Kart Happy Meal toys that other parts of the world got for the Mario Bros Movie in 2022, when we got the cardboard toys.

They do differ though as there’s no bikes in our range that includes 10 figures, and there’s also a rare Pink Gold Peach and Gold Mario figure.

Warner Bros. Discovery spoke at the Bank of America conference earlier today, and mentioned the importance of a Hogwarts Legacy successor for its video game business, with the company planning to release it in the next few years.

“Obviously, a successor to Hogwarts Legacy is one of the biggest priorities in a couple of years down the road,” chief financial officer Gunnar Wiedenfels said at Bank of America conference on Wednesday (thanks, Variety).

“So there is certainly a significant growth contribution from that [games] business in our strategic outlook here.” continued Wiedenfels.

The original game was 2023’s best selling game with over 24 million copies sold, selling more than other heavy hitters such as Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Obviously, with other WB games such as Suicide Squad not performing well, and notably being a loss for the company, it’s not a huge surprise that a Hogwarts Legacy sequel would be a major priority for the publisher.

It’s been reported previously that Rocksteady had moved on from Suicide Squad to help develop an unannounced Hogwarts Legacy Director’s Cut, so it’ll be interesting to see if that’s revealed in the near future.

Quiddich Champions, another Harry Potter game also dropped this week. That’s available as part of PlayStation Plus as well.

McDonald’s Australia has announced that it will be getting Mario Kart Toys in its Happy Meals starting September 5th. So far, the tease shows us at least Mario in kart form

Interestingly enough, these look to be similar to the Mario Kart Happy Meal toys that other parts of the world got for the Mario Bros Movie in 2022, when we got the cardboard toys, but they look slightly different to the point that I’m not sure which other figures will be included in the range.

It’s the 25th anniversary of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater later this month, and the socials for the game (created for the release of the 1+2 Remake a few years back) have all been updated to reflect a 25th anniversary celebration.

This change was spotted by Wario64, and are visible on YouTube, Twitter and Facebook accounts. This includes a brand new profile picture as well as a banner commemorating the 25th anniversary of one of the most iconic gaming franchises.

On the Facebook page, the company also updated a story saying that they’d be celebrating the anniversary all month long. Fans are speculating and hopeful that we’ll see a new Tony Hawk game or remasters of the later games.

It was confirmed by Tony Hawk himself that 3 and 4 were due to be remade but these were scrapped after Vicarious Visions merged with Blizzard. This was two years ago, so things could have most certainly changed, so it’ll be interesting to see what eventuates from this.

Nintendo stealth dropped another The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom five minute gameplay trailer overnight, revealing a bunch of new details about the game.

Nintendo showed off a new Still World in which Zelda can find a sword that allows her to transform into a powerful swordfighter (much like Link) for a short amount of time, taking enemies head on rather than using magic to get rid of them.

It’s said that Zelda is able to keep using the sword by collection energy to replenish the gauge within the Still World. Throughout the trailer, we also get a look at some familiar characters from the Zelda franchise as well.

I have to say, with every new look that we get of this game, it looks like it’s going to be packed with little tidbits from the Zelda franchise, but also a lot of newness which is good to see.

The first Nintendo Live Sydney event is happening this week, and there’s a bunch of great activations including looks at the history of the likes of Pokemon, but it’s the The Legend of Zelda history that provides a very interesting look at the timeline.

As pointed out by friends of the site Vooks, the timeline which has never been seen before places Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom on totally seperate timelines to the two that exist for literally every other Zelda game.

The majority of Zelda games are placed in a ‘The Hero is Defeated’ and ‘The Hero is Triumphant’ brackets, but these are the first in a good wild to not be included in either.

Instead, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom exist totally separately from the rest of the games on their own island.

Obviously, this could just be Ninendo not wanting to place them anywhere specifically yet, but people absolutely love debating the Zelda timeline, so it’s definitely one that is going to stoke the fire

Argonaut Games, the developer behind the original Croc game has revealed that the studio is back and their first game is a Croc Legend of the Gobbos remaster.

The game will come to consoles and PC later this year with the first trailer for the remaster being shown off this morning as well. It includes high-definition graphics, updated modern control mechanics as well as the addition of the Crocipedia which is a digital museum containing long-lost development assets for the game.

The trailer for the game definitely brings all the feels. I can’t say that I thought we’d ever see Croc again, but it’s such a staple of 1990s gaming.

It’s said that Argonaut Games has more games to be revealed in the near future as well, so it’ll be interesting to see if that means that we’ll be getting new Croc games or maybe a few other classics.

A brand new Tetris game has been revealed in Tetris Forever that is coming to the Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.

The collection will include more than 15 playable games with several of these being released outside of Japan for the first time. This includes the first version of Tetris, as well as games such as Tetris Battle Gaiden, Super Tetris 2 and Bombliss.

There’s also a brand new Tetris game included called Tetris Time Warp. This game allow allow you to warp between different eras of Tetris in real time.

There will also be a documentary with over 90 minutes of footage and an virtual museum with an interactive timeline.

One of the more surprising announcements at this morning’s Nintendo Direct was the announcement of a new Spongebob game called The Patrick Star Game.

This is a sandbox adventure game where you take to Bikini Bottom and can use any object to alter the world. There will be missions set by Spongebob, Mr Krabs, Sandy Cheeks and Plankton with many iconic locations such as Glove World, The Dump and Demolition Derby.

It’s releasing on PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC on October 4th, so not long to wait at all.

The Yakuza franchise is finally coming to a Nintendo console.

Announced in the double Nintendo Direct overnight, it’s been revealed that Yakuza Kiwami is coming to the Nintendo Switch on October 24th.

The game originally released on PS4, and it’s a remake of the first Yakuza game (originally released on PS2), so it’s definitely fitting that this would be the first one to come to Nintendo Switch.

Capcom has announced another fighting collection. Appropriately called the Capcom Fighting Collection 2, it will include 8 games that can’t currently be found anywhere else.

The games are:

• Capcom vs SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001
• Project Justice
• Capcom Fighting Evolution
• Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper
• Plasma Sword: Nightmare of Bilstein

This collection will release in 2025 for Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PC and like other Capcom compilations, an Xbox version hasn’t been released.

The games will all feature rollback netcode, a training mode, as well as a museum mode that includes official art, design documents, and other never before seen content.

The rumours were true, with MySims appearing on the EA website last week, and it now being confirmed that the MySims Cozy Bundle will bring two games from the franchise to the Nintendo Switch.

The MySims Cozy Bundle will bring MySims and MySims Kingdom to the Switch with optimised controls and updated textures. The bundle will release on November 19th exclusively for Nintendo Switch.

The games in the MySims franchise were somewhere between The Sims and Animal Crossing, releasing on the Wii and Nintendo DS in the mid 2000s. There were several other comes in the series as well, but for now, they’ll just remain a part of our memory.

Whilst we were hoping to see The Sims on Nintendo Switch at some point (it’s a perfect match really), this definitely feels like a great start and the MySims games had a bit of a cult following in that classic Nintendo era.

We knew that LEGO Horizon Adventures was releasing later this year, but it looks like we now have a release date courtesy of the PlayStation website.

If the homepage is to be believed, LEGO Horizon Adventures will be releasing on November 14th for the PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch.

The description reads: “Join Aloy and friends in a lush wilderness on a quest to save the world, available November 14th on PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch”.

It’s being speculated that the release date could be announced at tonight’s Nintendo Direct partner showcase that takes place at Midnight.

We recently got to play LEGO Horizon Adventures and said: “Even though my time with the game was short, I’m really eager to see what other surprises the team have in store with this one. Whilst it could have been a simple, by the numbers retelling, they’ve obviously tapped into everything in LEGO’s arsenal to pack as much fun into this as possible.”

Nintendo fans have been wondering when a The Sims game might come to Nintendo Switch and it looks like it’s finally about to happen.

According to the EA website, MySims looks to be coming to Nintendo Switch, with the game listed on the Nintendo Switch section of the EA website (thanks, Vooks).

It’s unclear if it’s a new game in the series, a remake or a remaster of the game of the same name. There were several MySims games that released with MySims Kingdom, MySims Party, MySims Racing among others released between 2007 and 2010.

Obviously, if this does come to fruition, we can hold out hope that we’ll see other The Sims games coming to Nintendo Switch as well, with them still being hugely popular especially among a more casual audience, so they’d feel right at home on the Switch.

After being revealed a few months ago, LEGO has revealed the first of the Mario Kart sets along with the fact that they’ll be releasing on January 1st, 2025.

Six sets will release initially including Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Toad, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi and Baby Peach. The biggest set is the Baby Peach + Gran Prix set which includes Baby Peach as well as Lemmy and Toad along with an obstacle-filled course, starting gate and everything else you need to simulate a race. For those that have the LEGO Mario, Luigi or Peach figures, you will get iconic Mario Kart audio and visual effects from the game.

We’re not that far out from Nintendo’s announcement of Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club, which was preceded by a bit of a viral tease, but it’s already nearly time for launch on August 29th.

And to get everyone good and ready for this sequel 35 years in the making, Nintendo’s revealed a playable demo for the game coming to the eShop tomorrow, giving keen fans access to the prologue and first chapter. It doesn’t stop there, either, with the second and third chapters of the game also being added to the demo in a gradual rollout between now and the full release.

The initial part of the demo will arrive at 11AM AEST tomorrow, followed by the second chapter on August 23rd, and the third chapter on August 28th, both similarly at 11AM AEST. You’ll be able to find the download right here when it’s live.

Fans who’ve been patiently waiting for the big, proper Nintendo Switch follow-up to 2012/2014’s excellent Fantasy Life are going to have to wait just a little longer, with developer LEVEL-5 revealing it’s pushed the game back once again.

Originally scheduled to launch in 2023, and then given a new release date of October 10th this year, Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time has now been delayed once again, with no new release date in sight.

“LEVEL-5 Inc. have decided to change the release date of FANTASY LIFE i: The Girl Who Steals Time, which was scheduled to be released in October 10, 2024,” the company said in a message on the game’s official website.

“We plan to announce more details about the new release timing and so on during the online event LEVEL5 VISION 2024 TO THE WORLD’S CHILDREN.

“To all of you who have been looking forward to the release, we apologize for any inconvenience caused and sincerely appreciate your understanding. Thank you for your patience.”

As promised, this morning Nintendo took us through a first, video tour of the new Nintendo Museum in Kyoto, Japan in a special “Nintendo Museum Direct” hosted by none other than Shigeru Miyamoto.

The opening date for the museum was also announced, with the Nintendo Museum accepting visitors beginning October 2nd, 2024.

The museum is built right on the site where the company originally used to make Hanafuda and other playing cards, before it got into the world of video games and made history, transforming a once-industrial car park area into a gorgeous plaza decorated with a classic Mario theme.

In the video, you can see a number of the museum’s exhibits, showing everything from a huge, circular wall of genuine retro Nintendo games and products, all impressively preserved and comprehensive. On the screens above these walls you can also look at videos of the games being played, with some neat directional audio technology meaning you only hear the one you’re standing in front of.

The next areas showcase the company’s history of products designed to get players moving, a history of the ? Block, a timeline of the evolution of visuals across iconic Nintendo series’ and even the pre-video game Nintendo era. The museum also has an interactive floor where attendees can use their phones (and feet) to play a giant card game.

Interestingly, the museum works on a Coin system, where entrants are given a card pre-loaded with 10 coins that they can “spend” on certain activities within. Three are shown in the video, including indoor pitching machines set inside recreation of old-school Japanese homes, a “laser clay” shooting gallery using the classic NES Zapper and SNES Super Scope, and my personal favourite – a room where you can play various snippets of NES, N64 and Wii games using giant controllers.

At the closing of the Pokémon World Championships 2024 in Honolulu, The Pokémon Company has revealed the host cities for not only the next championships in 2025 but also the 2026 event.

Next year’s competition will be held in Anaheim, California from August 15th to 17th, 2025, while the following year will take place in San Francisco from August 28th to 30th, 2026. Despite the “World Championships” moniker, that’s two in a row for the state of California alone, and a continuation of a trend since the event’s inception that’s seen it held in the US nearly every year.

The news came as part of the current Pokémon World Championships closing ceremony, which also held updates on Pokémon Go, Pokémon UNITE, the Pokémon Trading Card Game, along with a release date announcement for the new Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket app, which is launching on October 30th.

A new Nintendo Direct presentation has been announced for tomorrow morning, but it’s not quite the kind we’re used to. Instead of a look at any upcoming Switch games or, as we hope for a very time, new hardware, this will instead feature a tour of the new Nintendo Museum which is scheduled to open in the coming months in Kyoto, Japan.

The presentation is slated to run for approximately 10 minutes, and because it kind of has to at this stage, the company has already highlighted that “there will be no game announcements or mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during this presentation.”

Original Story: Although it hasn’t been officially announced yet, an English-language localisation of a highly-praised and previously Japan-exclusive 2023 platformer from developer Good-Feel (creators of Yoshi’s Crafted World, Wario Land: Shake It! and more) is making its way to the Switch very soon.

The global release of Bakeru, also known in its full Japanese title as “Otogi Katsugeki Mameda no Bakeru: Oracle Saitarou no Sainan!!,” has seemingly been outed by none other than the Australian Nintendo Switch eShop, and is coming on September 3rd.

At the time of writing, the game seems to still only be listed on the Aussie store, and there’s even a demo available to download and play for those with access to it. Pre-orders are available too, at a discounted price of $54 between now and launch.

Bakeru/Mameda no Bakeru is very heavily inspired by the Goemon games, of which many who grew up with a Nintendo 64 will remember thanks to Mystical Ninja starring Goemon – which was, in fact, directed by Good-Feel’s current president, Etsunobu Ebisu. It’s received a lot of praise from both Japanese players and those who’ve managed to get into it outside of Japan, praising the old-school 3D platforming action and gorgeous art style.

The Western release of the game will also feature some new additions, including two new attacks and an additional enemy.

We already know that Nintendo is planning to announce the much-anticipated successor to its incredibly popular Switch console before the end of its current financial year on March 31st, 2025, but if new claims from GamesIndustry.biz’s Head of Games, Christopher Dring, are anything to go by we can almost be certain that we won’t actually get our hands on the device until after that threshold.

Citing developers presumably already working with Nintendo and with knowledge on the subject, Dring opened hot in a recent episode of the outlet’s podcast by affirming his belief that the “Switch 2” won’t be launching in Nintendo’s current financial year.

“No developer I’ve spoken to expects it to be launching in the financial year,” Dring said. “In fact, they’ve been told not to expect it in the financial year. A bunch of people I spoke to hope it’s out in April or May time, still early next year, not late.

“I don’t think any of us wants a late launch for Switch 2 because, A; we all want a new Nintendo console, everyone gets very excited for it, and B; we don’t want that crunch of, like, GTA 6 and Switch and all that kind of stuff on top of each other.”

Not exactly the most surprising or hard-to-assume prospect, of course, given we still know very little about the console at an official level, but the idea that developers aren’t expecting we’ll see the new console on shelves for at least another six months does help to align expectations a bit.

The most recent word out of Nintendo’s camp came as the company assured it wouldn’t have supply issues at launch and that it’d combat scalpers simply by producing enough consoles, with company president Shuntaro Furukawa saying, “Last year and the year before, we were unable to produce sufficient quantities of Nintendo Switch hardware due to a shortage of semiconductor components, but this situation has now been resolved.”

“At present, we do not believe that the shortage of components will have a significant impact on the production of the successor model.”

What is the FINAL FANTASY Pixel Remaster Series?

The first six FINAL FANTASY games have been updated with beautiful new 2D pixel graphics designed to look great on HD displays, rearranged soundtracks overseen by original composer Nobuo Uematsu and improved gameplay features, including modernised user interface, auto-battle options and more.

The games are available on PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam now digitally, either separately or as a collection comprising FINAL FANTASY I – VI.

Nintendo has dropped a lengthy new overview trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, which runs for nearly six minutes and goes deep into just about everything the game has to offer ahead of its September 26th launch.

The trailer starts with a “Tour of Hyrule” where we see iconic locations like the Central Plateau and Hyrule Castle Town, all the way out to the Gerudo Desert, Jabul Waters, the Eldin Volcano region and the Faron Wetlands.

There’s also a look at a heap of the new game’s mechanics and features, including the Adventure Log, which is where you’ll keep track of all the quests and errands you pick up throughout your adventure, the ability to fast travel between waypoints around the map, and horse riding anywhere in the world just by laying down a Carrot Echo.

To help her along on her journey, Zelda will also be able to equip different outfits and accessories to improve things like her jumping ability, drop rates of items and hearts, swimming speed and more. She can also blend up smoothies at special stands around the map for added buffs.

Of course, the trailer highlights that Zelda will be able to create “Echoes” of objects to help her solve puzzles and get through tricky encounters, but we also get a first look at another major ability called Bind. This allows Zelda to essentially link an object to herself so that it follows her movements, like a very simple version of Tears of the Kingdom’s Ultrahand/Breath of the Wild’s Magnesis.

Zelda can also use “Reverse Bond” to link herself to something that moves, like an automated platform or even a flying creature, to automatically follow along its path. The puzzle solutions shown in the trailer actually look quite neat, so I’m excited to see more of it.

We gave Splatoon 3 an 8.5/10 in our original review, with Harry saying, “While more iterative than it is innovative, Splatoon 3 is without a doubt the best entry in the series yet. Despite lacking new multiplayer modes at launch, there’s a clear commitment to content and quality, with each aspect of the package being pushed to its logical extreme through smart and meaningful additions. Japanese developer Skeleton Crew has returned after dropping one of 2021’s most unique and underrated indie bangers, Olija, and is once again teaming up with Devolver Digital for its next title – Forestrike.

Billed as a “tactical kung fu” game, Forestrike casts players as a martial artist named Yu who possesses a special meditative technique that allows him to overcome any combat situation by playing it out in his head over and over until he comes up with the perfect sequence of movements. Yu will use this ability to set out on a journey to save his country’s Emperor from an evil force, learning the techniques of a series of five Masters along the way and using the Foresight to survive long enough to get stronger.

It’s quite the novel concept, and will no doubt speak to anyone like myself who thrives on playing every interaction with another human being out in their head 100 times before it actually happens – although hopefully Yu fares a bit better when it comes time to do the thing for real.

I was actually able to sample a demo of Forestrike ahead of the game’s announcement, the concept is potentially even more exciting in reality than it sounds on paper. Being able to practice each tense fight as many times as you need to figure out the perfect sequence is almost like choreographing a kung fu fight scene – and then having just one take to finally get it right on film. It has all the hallmarks of a good martial arts movie, too, like being able to pick up tables as shields, huck brooms across the room at enemies or dodge a charging foe and watch them barrel into another. With multiple fighting styles to unlock it seems like there’ll be a lot of room for player expression, and you get a sick replay at the end of fights to add even more payoff.

The game also carries a similarly striking, lo-fi pixel art style to Olija, which you can see in action in the Reveal Trailer below. Forestrike is slated to launch in 2025 for the Nintendo Switch and PC.

If you were hoping to see Nintendo reveal an all-new horror franchise or team up with a renowned studio for some Switch exclusive spookiness, you might be disappointed to know that its recent and very cryptic “Emio” tease was not pointing to either of those things.

If, however, you’re someone who’s been waiting over three decades for a fresh entry in the Famicom Detective Club franchise, well – you’re actually in luck. Nintendo has revealed that Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club will launch exclusively for the Switch on August 29th.

The game appears to follow closely in the legacy left by the series’ first two entries, tasking players with assisting the Utsugi Detective Agency in solving a murder mystery through point-and-click adventure style gameplay where scenes can be interacted with via a variety of commands and the mystery slowly unfolds as new clues, discoveries and suspects come into play.

“In Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club, a student has been found dead in a chilling fashion, his head covered with a paper bag with an eerie smiling face drawn on it,” reads the game’s official description. “This unsettling visage bears a striking resemblance to a recurring clue in a string of unsolved murders from 18 years ago,as well as Emio (the Smiling Man), a killer of urban legend who is said to grant his victims “a smile that will last forever.”

Nintendo also released a short video with producer, Yoshio Sakamoto, revealing the inspiration and ideas behind the sequel 35 years in the making, which you can watch below:

Nintendo actually released a duo of remakes of the first two Famicom Detective Club games a few years back on Switch, which we reviewed and scored a 7/10. At the time, James said, “Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir and Famicom Detective Club: The Girl Who Stands Behind are both well written adventure games with engaging stories. A striking visual overhaul does a great job of bringing both games into the twenty first century, without a doubt. Though this isn’t enough to do the same for the gameplay, which could have used a bit more streamlining.”

While it’s clear that Zelda is the true star of the next game in the series bearing her very name, The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom, many have wondered whether or not we’ll still have an opportunity to take control of regular protagonist, Link – especially after the tease/misdirection right at the beginning of the game’s debut trailer.

Now, thanks to a description of the game published via the US’ video game ratings board, the ESRB, we know that Link will in fact be playable in at least some capacity in the upcoming game.

The rating, as shared below by popular X account, Wario64, describes combat situations with both characters, stating in particular, “As Link, players use a sword and arrows to defeat enemies,” suggesting a fairly stock-standard style of play for a top-down Zelda title. It’ll be interesting to see where and how Link is featured in the game, as so far the story has been sold as Zelda’s journey to rescue our usual hero – whether he features in some kind of false open, has his own gameplay vignettes that run parallel to the main mission, or something else entirely.

“This is an adventure game in which players assume the role of Zelda as she attempts to dispel rifts throughout Hyrule and rescue Link. From a 3/4-overhead perspective, players explore various environments while fighting stylized enemies (e.g., humans, creatures). As Link, players use a sword and arrows to defeat enemies; Zelda can use a magic wand to summon creatures (e.g, wind-up knights, pig soldiers, slime) for battle. Some enemies can be defeated by being set on fire; other creatures dissolve into mist when defeated. Battle sequences are somewhat frenetic, with several enemies attacking/fighting at once.”

Update 15/07: Nintendo has revealed even more information around its upcoming Nintendo Live Sydney 2024 event, after recently drawing and contacting all of the lucky folks to score an invite to the exclusive event.

Per an email sent out to ticket holders, and an information page on the official website, Nintendo is asking attendees to register for a “Warp Pipe Pass” which will dictate when they arrive on the day to ensure a smooth entry process. Essentially, it’s planning to stagger arrivals based on three intervals each day, and as of July 18th at 9AM AEST you’ll be able to reserve your entry time out of the below:

• Entry window #1: 10:00am – 11:59pm (AEST)
• Entry window #2: 12:00pm – 1:29pm (AEST)
• Entry window #3: 1:30pm – 3:00pm (AEST)

It’s worth noting that there won’t be any restriction on how long you’ll be able to stay once you’ve checked in, but you’ll need to rock up between the allotted hours you’ve registered for on whichever day your ticket applies to.

Aside from entry information, the official page also has some more details on what everyone can expect from the Nintendo Live Sydney 2024 event, including a gameplay tournament dubbed Mario Dojo, “Experience Zones” based on different Nintendo franchises, mascots and sculpture installations and more. Update 01/07: With registrations having closed over the weekend, it looks like Nintendo has now emailed all entrants who signed up for a chance to attend Nintendo Live Sydney 2024 to let them know if they were successful in securing a ticket.

Successful tickets come with QR codes and links to add the tickets to your mobile wallets, and if you entered with multiple people you’ll get the one email with everyone’s ticket inside.

After announcing the event last month, Nintendo has finally revealed some exciting new details for its upcoming Sydney iteration of the Nintendo Live expo later this year. The in-person event, which first came to Japan before heading to the US last year, is finally making its way to Australia with a heap of activities for gamers of all ages including gameplay, My Nintendo Merch and appearances from the legendary Charles Martinet.

Nintendo Live Sydney will be held at the International Convention Centre Sydney on Saturday August 31st and Sunday September 1st from 10:00am to 6:00pm AEST each day, with free single-day tickets going out as a raffle to Nintendo Account holders. Registration will open on June 17th and then close on June 30th, with entrants randomly selected to receive a pass to the event.

It’s also worth noting, if you’re hoping to attend with anyone else whether a second person or a whole group, you’ll need to link your Nintendo Accounts to a Family Group. Here’s how to register for the chance to attend as well as ensure your account details and Family Group are up to date:

Following a drop of some new NES titles just recently, Nintendo has just added three more games to its library of Game Boy Advance classics for those subscribed to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack tier.

This new drop is focused entirely on the original three “Starfy” games, Densetsu no Starfy, Densetsu no Starfy 2 and Densetsu no Starfy 3. As you might glean from the titles, these games were all previously only available in Japan and remain entirely in Japanese, but the Kirby-esque platformers are simple enough to pick up and play regardless and are well worth checking out for fans of Nintendo platformers.

The Nintendo Switch has just overtaken the Famicom (the original, Japanese version of the NES) as the Nintendo home console to have had the longest lifespan before being succeeded by a new machine.

First released on March 3rd, 2017, the Switch has officially been around for 2688 days (at the time of writing, July 12th), or just over seven years and four months, compared to the Famicom’s 2686-day run before it was superceded by the Super Famicom. Given that we still know next to nothing about Nintendo’s next machine, that margin of victory is only going to continue to grow from now.

Thanks to the folks at VGC, who brought this to the world’s attention and put together a fantastic comparison of Nintendo home console lifespans (go take a look at it here), we can also see that the Switch is on its way to doubling the comparative lifespan of the Wii U, which was on the market for just 1,566 days before becoming outmoded – if not earlier in the eyes of most consumers.

Will we see the Switch reach its 8th birthday without a successor hitting the market? It seems more likely every day. And of course, even after a new Nintendo console does arrive it’s hard not to see the current Switch enjoying many more years of life given its immense popularity and top-notch library of first party titles.

For now, all we know is that Nintendo plans to formally announce its next console at some point between now and the end of March 2025.

“This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo,” the company’s announcement a couple of months ago read. “We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015. We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.”

Here’s an unexpected one for the 2024 bingo card – Nintendo has dropped a creepy teaser overnight for what appears to be a horror title of some kind.

The video, simply titled Emio, simply shows an image of a person in a trenchcoat against a dark background, wearing a paper bag over their head with a smiling face drawn on. We get a few camera cuts, a flash of unsettling paper bag teeth and some classic spooky music.

It’s a confounding thing, with almost nothing in the way of a description aside from the repeated phrase of “Who is Emio?” and the fact that in Japanese the video is reportedly titled, “The Smiling Man.”

Could this be the first tease of a Switch 2 launch title? Is this an elaborate tease for a different game? Have they let Yoko Taro and Shinji Mikami co-direct the next Detective Pikachu? Whatever the project is, it’s got age ratings across the globe, so it’s definitely a game/product of some kind. In Australia, it carries an MA15+ rating for “Strong themes, violence and suicide references,” while in the NZ it’s nabbed an R-13 rating for “Violence, cruelty, domestic abuse and suicide themes,” suggesting the subject matter here is going to be well outside of the norm for the company.

Nintendo’s not dabbled a whole lot in horror outside of publishing some exclusive third-party efforts like Eternal Darkness and Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water, so it’d be excellent to see the company return to the idea.

There’s a teaser website for Emio live now via Nintendo Japan, suggesting this is genuinely a new first-party title from its studios, or a third party close by, but it seems we’ll have to wait to find out anything more.

Update 10/7: After it was first revealed during Nintendo’s big June direct, the addition of basketball in Nintendo Switch Sports as a free update has finally arrived and is available right now.

Players who update their copy of the game and jump back in will be able to go head-to-head with friends in streak battles or three-point contests, as well as two-on-two matches and solo challenges with both local and online multiplayer supported.

We gave Nintendo Switch Sports a 7.5/10 in our review back in 2022, with Shannon saying, “Nintendo Switch Sports feels familiar, yet still remains fun after all these years, especially when played with groups of friends. Original Story: Nintendo aired its promised June Nintendo Direct overnight, giving us around 40 minutes of new announcements, updates, trailers and releases for the Switch.

One of the smaller but more unexpected reveals was the news that Nintendo Switch Sports is getting a new, free update that’ll introduce the sport of basketball to the game, in a nice bit of added support for the 2022 title.

Players will be able to go head-to-head with friends in streak battles or three-point contests, as well as two-on-two matches, and solo challenges when the basketball update lands soon.

Just a few months after Nintendo finally pulled the plug on the Wii U’s online services, it’s not put a final nail in the console’s coffin with the announcement that support for repairs of the console is officially ending.

The news comes with a little warning, as the company had previously let folks know that supply of replacement parts for the Wii U was dwindling, but now the time has come and Nintendo says it simply doesn’t have any spare Wii U bits lying around to fix up faulty or damaged machines.

The information can be found on the Nintendo Japan support website, which lists all of the consoles and devices that the company no longer accepts repairs for and now includes the Wii U, although at the time of writing it’s still possible to submit a request on the Nintendo Australia website to send in a faulty Wii U to be looked at for a fee – along with a number of other legacy devices.

It’s hard to imagine there are too many folks out there desperate to keep their Wii U consoles alive at this point. The device had a famously lukewarm response, and Nintendo quickly abandoned it in favour of the turnaround in success it had with the Switch. Many of the Wii U’s better first-party titles eventually got re-releases for the Switch, as well. Still, preservation isn’t just for the winners so if you’ve got a working Wii U, treat that thing with the care it deserves.

Naturally, eyes are less on legacy Nintendo hardware and more on the future at this point, with the successor to the Nintendo Switch still looming and the world anticipating the company’s previously-confirmed reveal happening at some point between now and its next fiscal year – so by March 2025 at the latest.

Nintendo has just released a new drop of classic titles for its July 2024 Nintendo Switch Online offering, launching seven new Nintendo Entertainment System games.

It’s a pretty significant allocation of titles in comparison to the usual drip-feed, though the games included aren’t exactly the most memorable or iconic – with the exception of Golf, of course.

It’s actually not the first time that Golf has been included on the Switch, though the previous example was an easter egg where a version of the game (running on an emulator called Flog) was found hidden away in the Switch’s source code as a touching tribute to the late Satoru Iwata. The game could be accessed by recreating Iwata’s famous Nintendo Direct hand gesture on the date of his passing, July 11th. Nintendo later removed this feature, so it’s nice to see the game return in a more accessible fashion.

These games are available to all Nintendo Switch Online subscribers with no need for the extra Expansion Pack tier, and you can find them in the Game Boy app (downloadable through the Nintendo Switch Online menu or the eShop) right now. If you don’t have an NSO membership already, you can get it for $29.95 here or $59.95 for a “family” membership with access for up to 8 accounts.

Nintendo’s crusade against Switch pirates doesn’t seem to have lost any steam after its heavily-publicised lawsuit against the Yuzu emulator earlier this year which resulted in a settlement of $2.4 million USD and a complete shutdown of its services.

As reported by TorrentFreak, the company is apparently now going after two more prominent names in the Switch modding and pirating space – modchip and MIG device seller, Modded Hardware, and one of the moderators of the r/SwitchPirates subreddit.

These two cases seem a little more cut-and-dry compared to Nintendo’s court battle against Yuzu and the murkiness of emulation. Modded Hardware directly sells modified Nintendo Switch consoles and “MiG” carts and devices that allow users to quickly and easily copy retail Switch cartridges and play them on unmodded hardware – unabashedly enabling easy piracy. Nintendo reportedly reached out to its alleged Michigan-based owner and operator, Ryan Daly, threatening to sue unless he ceased selling the devices. Daly didn’t stop however, and so the company is making good on those threats.

“Defendant not only offers the hardware and firmware to create and play pirated games, but he also provides his customers with copies of pirated Nintendo games,” Nintendo’s complaint reads.

“Typically, when a customer purchases a Hacked Console or the Circumvention Services, Defendant preinstalls on the console a portfolio of ready-to-play pirated games, including some of Nintendo’s most popular titles such as its Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Metroid games.”

“Indeed, because pirated Nintendo Switch games cannot be used or created without a Hacked Console and related software and hardware, it is only because of products and services such as those sold by Defendant that illegal marketplaces distributing pirated games exist and thrive,” it continues.

The other case is against Arizona resident James Williams, who goes by Archbox on Reddit and is alleged to be involved in multiple “Pirate Shops” and responsible for facilitating the playing of pirated Switch games in the r/SwitchPirates subreddit as a moderator.

“Defendant became a leading (if not the primary) moderator of the SwitchPirates Reddit community, which he helped grow to nearly 190,000 members. Since 2019, Defendant has posted thousands of comments and messages to the SwitchPirates Reddit Group,” Nintendo’s complaint against Williams reads.

“Defendant’s posts have included, by way of example, messages directing users to the Pirate Shops […]; and offering technical advice and encouragement to other users about how to use the Pirate Shops, how to download and install Circumvention Software, and how to play pirated copies of Nintendo Switch games.”

“Defendant is well aware that his conduct is unlawful and infringes Nintendo’s intellectual property rights. Indeed, Defendant has bragged publicly that he is a ‘pirate’ who “[isn’t] going to give Nintendo $50 for a game”,” it continues.

In a recent Q&A with shareholders (and shared by VGC), Nintendo has addressed concerns around launch availability of the successor to its massively-popular Switch console.

When asked about what the company will do to prevent the new device from being widely scalped, similar to what we saw with the launch of the PlayStation 5 and in the face of semiconductor shortages in recent years that hugely affected the console market, Nintendo’s executives confirmed that the core plan to combat scalping activity will simply be to ensure there’s enough stock to begin with.

Aside from simply aiming to make sure anyone who wants to buy a “Switch 2″ at launch can do so without turning to resellers, Nintendo also said that it’s “taking into account the circumstances in each region.”

The other point of concern coming out of the Q&A is the company’s ability to produce that much hardware at launch, no doubt borne of those earlier component shortages that affected Switch supply for a hot minute. Nintendo’s Shuntaro Furukawa, though, dismissed those concerns.

“Last year and the year before, we were unable to produce sufficient quantities of Nintendo Switch hardware due to a shortage of semiconductor components, but this situation has now been resolved,” the president explained.

“At present, we do not believe that the shortage of components will have a significant impact on the production of the successor model.”

Update: After a soft launch a few weeks ago, Nintendo has confirmed that the Pokémon Centre Online store has now fully opened in Australia and New Zealand.

The main difference appears to be a much broader range of available products, though those of us hoping the proper launch would also result in more reasonable shipping charges may be disappointed. You’ll now find a huge range of plushies, clothing, homewares, figures trading cards and more.

Original Story: That was fast – just a couple of weeks after it was revealed that Aussie and New Zealand Pokemon fans would be able to shop at the official Pokemon Centre Online web store, the virtual doors have now been opened in a “soft launch.”

The range available on the website seems to be more or less the same as the US, Canada and UK counterparts at this stage, with no fun exclusives, but given this is a soft launch that could very well change. Along with more localised postage, hopefully, as right now it all seems to be forwarded on through a global carrier at some eye-watering shipping prices. Products available to be shipped to Australia and NZ include the incredible POKÉMON × KOGEI Pikachu plush, Squishmallows, Pokemon Centre-exclusive TCG boxes, figures, apparel and heaps more.

A message that appears when you first head to the site from Australia reads:

“We’re excited to welcome you in with the best possible experience, but this site is still in its early stages, and you may see a few hiccups. In that FAQ section is a heap of info on availability of products, purchasing and shipping. Currently, things like pre-orders and promotional items are not available to ANZ customers, and shipping takes a couple of weeks on average which suggests it’s coming from overseas, but these are things we’d expect to shift and change as the “hard launch” of the local arm of the Pokemon Centre Online happens at some point in the future.

Nintendo aired its promised June Nintendo Direct overnight, giving us around 40 minutes of new announcements, updates, trailers and releases for the Switch.

While it couldn’t have been a major Nintendo Direct without the announcement of a micro-portion of new classic games for the Nintendo Switch Online service, this latest batch is at least wall-to-wall bangers. Four new games were announced in total, with The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past Four Swords and Metroid: Zero Mission from the Game Boy Advance as well as two “mature” Nintendo 64 titles in Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and the iconic Perfect Dark.

Being N64 and GBA titles, these ones are exclusive to subscribers of the more expensive Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership tier membership, but if that’s you, you can play them as of right now via the official Game Boy Advance app and the newly-minted “Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Switch Online: Mature” app.

Nintendo aired its promised June Nintendo Direct overnight, giving us around 40 minutes of new announcements, updates, trailers and releases for the Switch.

Among the bigger surprises of the show was the announcement of a brand-new entry in the iconic Mario Party franchise, titled Super Mario Party Jamboree.

The game, which is launching for Nintendo Switch on October 17th, will feature the largest selection of minigames to date with a huge 110 to discover, plus five all-new game boards and two returning boards from previous games, and will also come with a new 20-player online mode dubbed Koopathlon.

The trailer also reveals some neat new features and power-ups like the Turbo Dice which will can send players up to 40 spaces in their kart on the Roll ’em Raceway board.

Yes, it’s finally happened. We got a very first look at gameplay of the next Metroid Prime game, which is now dubbed Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The game, which looks very slick, has been given a release window of “2025” for the Nintendo Switch and I’m sure most of us are fully expecting it to also launch on the eventual successor console.

One much-awaited update came via a release date announcement for the exciting HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest III, which has officially set its launch for November 14th, 2024.

Nintendo aired its promised June Nintendo Direct overnight, giving us around 40 minutes of new announcements, updates, trailers and releases for the Switch.

One massive surprise announcement for the Direct was the announcement of The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom, a brand-new top-down adventure where Zelda herself is the hero of the day, on a mission to save Link and Hyrule itself.

Zelda will be equipped with the “Tri-rod” as her main tool in the game, which is a magical device able to create “Echo” copies of objects in the world to solve puzzles. The same will go for battles, where Zelda can create Echoes of monsters to fight enemies on her behalf, or just copy things to chuck at the bad guys.

The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom launches on September 26th, 2024, and a special edition Nintendo Switch Lite will also release alongside the game.

Nintendo aired its promised June Nintendo Direct overnight, giving us around 40 minutes of new announcements, updates, trailers and releases for the Switch.

One of the more exciting reveals for RPG fans is the news that Fantasian, the previously Apple Arcade-exclusive title from Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon developer, Mistwalker (headed by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi), is finally making its way to consoles as “FANTASIAN Neo Dimension” later this year.

The game was original released in two parts on iOS, macOS and tvOS via Apple Arcade, with the first part dropping in April 2021 and the second part in August 2021. Now, three years later, those playing on Switch (as well as PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and PC) can finally appreciate the game’s lavish visuals made unique by layering 3D models on genuine, handcrafted dioramas transposed into the game using 3D scanning technology.

Aside from the visual point-of-difference, Fantasian also employs some radical design shifts from a typical turn-bsaed RPG, like being able to temporarily skip fights against previously-encountered enemies and then take them all on at once when they’ve banked up too many. Add to all of this a 60-track original soundtrack from Final Fantasy veteran, Nobuo Uematsu, and it’s a game well worth checking out. This new version will also come with new features including English and Japanese voice overs and an additional difficulty option.

Perhaps most interesting is that this new port is being backed by Square Enix, which is surely something of a full circle moment for Sakaguchi and the Mistwalker team.

Immediately out of the gate, Nintendo dropped a pretty big surprise with a new Mario & Luigi title for the Switch, titled Mario & Luigi: Brothership and launching on November 7th.

The game comes complete with a great-looking cel shaded visual style, and looks to feature the series’ trademark humour, action and puzzle-solving. It’ll see the mustachioed brothers embark on a new adventure aboard the part-ship-part-island Shipshape Island, travelling the world of Concordia and saving the day as always.

A big, 40-minute Nintendo Direct is set to air tonight but before the main event, Shigeru Miyamoto has taken to the company’s Japanese Twitter account to reveal the release date of the next Super Mario animated film in Japan.

The movie, which was already previously announced to release in the US on April 3rd, 2026, will debut just shortly after in Japan on April 24th.

The tweet reads, “Hello, this is Miyamoto. We will be broadcasting a Nintendo Direct tonight, but before that I would like to make an announcement. The release date for the new Super Mario animated movie in Japan has been set for April 24, 2026. We are working with the Illumination team to make it a fun movie, so please continue to look forward to it.”

The film is once again coming from Illumination, and this time it’s been announced that Nintendo and Illumination staff are working hand-in-hand to produce the movie.

“The Super Mario Bros. Movie, released last Spring, continues to be watched by many people, including over the holidays and into this year!” Miyamoto said in a video accompanying the original announcement of the next movie, which you can watch below.

“The team at Illumination who worked on the Super Mario Bros. Movie is also producing this new film, together with Nintendo.”

Miyamoto also teased that the world of Mario will be expanded even further with the new film, potentially teasing even more characters and worlds from the wider Super Mario universe making an appearance.

“This is Miyamoto. We are now creating a new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros. This film is planned for release in theaters on April 3rd, 2026 in the US and many other markets, and throughout the month of April in other territories,” said a separate post from Miyamoto at the time the film was announced.

“We’ll let you know the details once we’re ready to share more. This time too, the staff at Illumination and Nintendo are working together. We’re thinking about broadening Mario’s world further, and it’ll have a bright and fun story. We hope you’ll look forward to it!”

As previously revealed, Nintendo has now removed Twitter/X integration from Nintendo Switch with the latest system version which dropped today, bringing the system software up to Version 1.8.1.0.

This means players can no longer be able to post screenshots or videos from their console or certain games to X, with Nintendo saying that the functionality will likely also become unavailable for Facebook and other services in the future. It’s also removed the ability to send friend requests to social media friends from the Switch console.

• The following updates were made for the discontinuation of X (formerly Twitter) integration:
  • The option to “Post to Twitter” when sharing from the Album in the Nintendo Switch HOME Menu was removed.
  • The ability to post Super Smash Bros. Ultimate screenshots from the Album in the Nintendo Switch HOME Menu to Smash World in the Nintendo Switch Online smart device app was removed.
  • The option to link X (formerly Twitter) from “Settings” > “User Settings” > “Posting to Social Media” was removed.
• The option to link social media accounts from “My Page” > “Friend Suggestions” was removed.
• General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.

As of June 10, 2024, it will no longer be possible to post screenshots and videos to X (formerly Twitter) from the Nintendo Switch's Album, or send friend requests to social media users via the Friend Suggestions feature.

  • The ability to post Super Smash Bros. Ultimate screenshots from the Album in the Nintendo Switch HOME Menu to Smash World, in the Nintendo Switch Online smart device app, will also become unavailable.
• Posting features in the Nintendo Switch title Splatoon 3 will be adjusted.
  • When posting from the mailbox in Splatsville, Inkopolis Plaza, or Inkopolis Square, you will no longer be able to post to X (formerly Twitter) or Facebook; the data will be sent directly to Nintendo servers. This change will allow users to make posts without one of these social media accounts, but images posted by players younger than 13 will not be visible to other players.
  • The image created for the post will be copied to the Album in the Nintendo Switch HOME Menu. Images in the Album can be transferred to a smart device wirelessly or to a PC via USB cable.
• Posting features in the Nintendo Switch title Splatoon 2 will be adjusted.
  • You will no longer be able to post to X (formerly Twitter) from the mailbox in Inkopolis Square.
  • The characters that appear and posts that are displayed in the Square will be replaced by data already prepared within the game software.
• The feature for sending friend requests to social media friends via the Friend Suggestions menu on My Page, in the Nintendo Switch HOME Menu, will no longer be available.
  • You can continue to use the friend suggestions feature from smart devices, Nintendo 3DS, and Wii U.”

During the Summer Game Fest showcase earlier this week, Warner Bros. announced that Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions will be coming to most major platforms before the end of the year.

While it was announced a year ago, and playtests have since been and gone, the title has since been dated with a new official reveal trailer.

The footage showcases a brand new art style, different from last year’s Hogwarts Legacy, and will feature extensive character customisation and allow you to select from up to four positions to play on the field.

Of course, the game will also feature online competitive play as well.

The game will be released on September 3rd for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.

Mega Man fans are in for a treat today with five (count ’em) games dropping into the collection of original Game Boy titles for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.

The games include, naturally, the Mega Mans (or is it Mans, Mega?) 1 through 5, representing some of the most fun (and frustrating) 2D platforming experiences of mine and many others’ childhoods.

It’s been rumoured for a hot minute now, but Nintendo has finally revealed the very first LEGO The Legend of Zelda set, and as previously believed it’s a very cool 2-in-1 set featuring the iconic Great Deku Tree.

The set covers the Deku Tree as seen in arguably two of the series’ most important titles, The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, with the former naturally featuring a greener look and minifigures based on N64 young and adult Link while the latter is a little more complex with pink leaves, Link and Zelda a la Breath of the Wild minifigures and even the main maracca man, Hestu.

The 2500-piece set stands at up to 33cm tall depending on which version you build, and costs an eye-watering $449.99 AUD. It’ll officially launch on September 1st, but pre-orders are live right now on the LEGO online store.

Konami has announced that a Silent Hill Transmission is taking place later this week, and it will bring us game updates, a deeper look at the film as well as new merch.

“Consider this your invitation letter to Silent Hill,” the official Silent Hill X/Twitter account wrote. “Tune in May 30 at 4 p.m. PDT to our SILENT HILL YouTube channel for the second installment of the #SILENTHILL Transmission where we’ll share game updates, a deeper look at the film, and new merch. #SILENTHILL” the Tweet reads.

The Silent Hill Transmission is taking place on Friday, May 31st at the below times:

This is only the second Silent Hill Transmission with the first taking place in late October, 2022. This was a massive one where we got reveals for Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill: Townfall, Silent Hill F, Silent Hill: Ascension and Return to Silent Hill. So far, the only one of these to see the light of day and release is Silent Hill: Ascension.

We’d expect that Silent Hill 2 Remake is the furthest along of all of these, with a new trailer coming earlier this year. PlayStation had included it in a 2024 sizzle reel earlier this year, meaning that we’d expect to get a release date in this transmission.
