I agree he made mistakes and bad choices but he had a lot of bad advice from people riding of him. I agree as his career went on he lacked movement but in his earlier fights he had plenty of head movement, slipped shots and worked his way in nicely. He was not perfect but had plenty of raw talent. Less naturally talented fighters with less heart have done quite nicely and get respected. Like I say, respect for what he achieved.
Tyson had the raw talent but unfortunately he was robbed by all that is crooked in the boxing world. He was a great champ and deserves respect for his achievements.
Yes well said. There is also the psychological aspect of it all, no one was around to control that post D’Amato, Rooney ect and that is what, I believe, was the dimise of a person who should have been the greatest boxer of all time.
It is however now nice to see that America is treating treating Tyson as a former legend.
@Mangler312 , Yea Tyson was the best ever fighter in my veiw,Fucking gold digging bitches!! Worse things have happened then Mike gropping a few birds, those stupid bitches ruined his career.Where and what have they ever done in life?? apart from jump on the back of celebs.
@fadethetrade everyone has off days and i have heard that rooney didnt want tyson too finish aol his opponants early and wanted him to go distance for experience..thats why i ave heard commentators sat tyson is far less aggressive in some fights..nothing to do with opponant…biggs was very awkward but tyson was far more aggressive against easier people…..rooney and co were very smart….everyone fades.. also…ali got dropped by cooper..i dont recall tyson even being bruised in prime days
@fadethetrade tyson was 42 to 1 fav against douglas…if tyson took him serious he would of beaten him…that was douglas best and a bad tyson and still tyson nearly beat him…..yeh tyosn did head hunt…after jail it was all over sadly…..when you beat the best on planet then you fight a bum how can you have desire to train….no excuse but it is an excuse
when tyson didnt follow the fight plan damato atlas and rooney honed in on,he only looked to throw the big sloppy right hand and try to follow thru with the sloppy left right behind it,Douglas and holyfield learned how to “step in” on those lunges.he would never beat douglas as the tyson post rooney, never. He had douglas on the canvas and actually almost got ko’d himself in the next round(9).that was an embarressment for tyson.
tyson with 12 rounds of the same stamina and power he had for the first 5 rounds,he would be the best pound for pound fighter in HISTORY!! not just heavyweight but anyweight anytime.Cassius Clay would get his butt beaten by a stamina ridden tyson.
mitch green was a stumble bum.tyson should have ko’d him by the 6th.Tysons stamina let him down with green,a good example, thanks! Tysons bobbing and weaving was great before he won the title but he never could put the power together after round 7,he had combinations late but the power seemed to fade!! He only kod ribalta after the 7th in his ENTIRE CAREER! and the ribalta fight ,jose could have continued.
@fadethetrade: 10th sounds reasonable. the great George Foreman himself listed Tyson as the 7th best heavyweight of all time. Regardless of what all the critics and haters say, i’d still say that Tyson is in the top 10. most probably in the lower half.
@fadethetrade well douglas had a fluke win in my eyes..why??????the refs count on him was well over 10 secs…fight o ver with any other ref. frazier didnt throw cobos like tyson….tyson had lung problems his whole life also he use to smoke and drink close to fights after rooney etc even have sex day before fights
this is what separated tyson from frazier.Joe Frazier had great stamina and could go 12 and get stronger thru the 9th ,10th and 11th as he demonstrated against ali.Tyson was an ordinary fighter after the 7th round. He only ko’d 1 fighter after the 7th in his entire career and that was even questionable (ribalta). Tyson with great stamina would have been the best ever in history and would beat the shit out of ali, lewis and holyfield. But his lack of stamina diminished him to only a10th best
all the schmucks who believe tyson folded when confronted was a bunch of crap.Tyson wasnt afraid of anyone,he only got discouraged because his stamina wouldn’t carry him enough to implement his game plans.Thats why douglas, holy and lewis beat him.Now against a finely tuned and trained and focused tyson of early 1988,that might be a different story and he could actually have beaten those three at their best.possibly but that stamina might have been a problem against for him in 88 also.
against ruddock 2,tyson lacked the stamina necessary to finish ruddock as he barely did in their first fight.Against holyfield, tyson should have taken over in that 5th round in fight 1 when he threw the bolo body/uppercut ans backed holy up.That should have been the finish there as he did against pinklon thomas. And in their 2nd fight, tyson was actually winning in the third before the bite but his stamina wouldnt carry him,so he said ‘adios” and bit his ear off!
here’s the painfull truth! Tyson’s stamina was questionable even with rooney 86-88 but much better stamina then the tyson after 1988 (king). The damato style took too muh stamina to implement properly and tyson lacked the necessary stamina to be a top 3 of all time. This was his TRUE weakness, because his stamina was bad.Maybe he had it a little better in 1988 but that’s it.Against douglas ,tyson lacked the stamina necessary to finish douglas off in the 9th,which he should have done.
name me any fighter as ferocious as tyson. I think tyson, even tho he was only about 220 lbs, wth hard training under kevin rooney, could take on any of the greats. tyson ended careers like spinks&broke jaws like botha& johnson. he ligtning speed& peekaboo strategy killed. tyson under don king was not nearly as good as tyson under rooney. u can see the lack of skill when tyson droppd rooney to stick with king, its rilly sad. & yet he was stil fukin scary after dumping rooney, jus not invincible.
Yea man ur right! he was the best at what he did…. But let me ask you, what are things that are crooked in boxing? im just curious in knowing
I agree he made mistakes and bad choices but he had a lot of bad advice from people riding of him. no head movement either, and no combos..
nah he was the one firing trainers and getting locked up. he brought it on himself IMO.
Tyson had the raw talent but unfortunately he was robbed by all that is crooked in the boxing world. He was a great champ and deserves respect for his achievements.
ya, as huge tyson fan I thougt allso this fight was little bad from tyson I have never saw him fight like this
Very clumsy performance from Tyson. Wild, amateurish swings, and the slip was especially embarrassing.
This looked more like a Butterbean fight than a Tyson fight.
SHit after that slip that just pissed him off…..and if i was Steward i could have just left the ring RUNNING LOL

Mike looked like a beast on the comeback trail. He showed he could still gut it out vs Razor 2 times. Fuck Desiree Washington

@fadethetrade i hear what your saying but i saw him bobbing and weaving against mitch green in the twelve round and going for it.

haha mike was so cute when he slipped!
